Different Date in British English with American English

1. Date in British English
Usually date write before month, we can use prefex st, nd, rd or th.
ex: 1(st) March 2014

2. Date in American English
In american english we also can write date only with number.
ex. 01/03/14.
American = 3 January 2014
British = 1 March 2014

Remark:
Format for British English = Day- Month-Year
Format for American English  Month-Day-Year

The Months in English

There are 12 months of the year:

  1. January
  2. February
  3. March
  4. April
  5. May
  6. June
  7. July
  8. August
  9. September
  10. October
  11. November
  12. December

Example:
A : I will exam in June
A : I will exam on 8th, June 2014
A : What month is it?

Names of days

There are 7 days in English:

  1. Sunday
  2. Monday
  3. Tuesday
  4. Wednesday
  5. Thursday
  6. Friday
  7. Saturday
Example conversation in english about days:
A : What day is it today?
B : It is Friday

A : Is it Sunday?
B : Yes, it is / No, it is not

The preposition before name days use "on", ex:
A : I don't go to school on Sunday
A : I like to go shopping on Friday

Time in English

There are 2 ways to speak the time as detail below:
1. Speak hour and then minutes
ex.
6 : 10 ---> Six ten
5 : 30 ---> Five thirty
7 : 40 ---> Seven forty
for minutes 0 - 09. we can add 'oh'. ex. 1:05 ---> One (oh) five

2. Speak minutes and then hour
for minutes 01-30 we use past
ex.
6 : 10 ---> Ten past six
5 : 30 ---> Thirty past five

But, for minutes 31-59 we use to
ex.
8 : 40 ---> Twenty to nine
9 : 55 ---> Five to ten

Remark:
15 minutes = a quarter
30 minutes = a half
ex.
3 : 15 ---> a quarter past three
5 : 30 ---> half past five
1 : 45 ---> a quarter to two
